Trackdéchets, how does it work?

What is Trackdéchets?

It is a digital tool that simplifies, secures, and dematerialises the processes for traceability of hazardous waste. It allows stakeholders to easily comply with their regulatory obligations concerning the treatment of hazardous waste (e.g. obligation to have the necessary permits to collect and treat hazardous waste).

The ultimate goal is to avoid illegal dumping and orphan sites that pose a threat to the environment and our health.

This tool was developed by a state-owned startup within Fabrique Numérique, an incubator of the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

How does it work?

When a natural or legal person produces hazardous waste and uses a transporter to send it to a treatment facility, the producer must register the transport of this waste on Trackdéchets (or ensure that the transporter does this for them). There will be no more paper waste tracking notes, everything will be done directly on Trackdéchets, which guarantees transparency to all actors in the value chain and makes the waste chain completely secure.

In short, all movements of waste are recorded on Trackdéchets, as well as the exchanges between the different actors: producers, transporters, and treatment facilities.

The decree n° 2021-321 of 25th of March 2021 makes the use of Trackdéchets mandatory for all actors that handle hazardous waste and this from 1st of January 2022 onwards.

ALTAROAD’s platform has been integrated with Trackdéchets since mid-2020, and we are in partnership with the State’s startup since July 2021.
